This sounds very French but I am assured that it is great fun and not too energetic.

As many of you will know, we have a couple of groups that we organise only for the summer.
We play Pétanque (Boules) in the pub garden of The Ship at Owslebury 2 Whites Hill , Winchester SO21 1LT on the last Thursday afternoon of the month. This will be from June to October, weather permitting.
This is not a strenuous game, and most people can play, the rules are very simple:

• The team that won the last end throw the jack and the 1st boule.
• The someone on the other team throws a boule.
• From that point on someone on the team NOT nearest to the jack throws a boule until they are nearer or the team have no more boules.
• The team with boules left throw the rest of their boules.
• A point is scored for every boule closer to the jack that the nearest one on the other team.
• First team to 13 wins.

We start at 2 pm and finish at 4 pm, although a few of us arrive earlier for a light lunch at about 12:30 before we play.
The dates of the games for 2026 will be:

• 30th April
• 28th May
• 25th June,
• 30th July,
• 27th August,
• 24th September,
• 29th October.
  

I know some people are nervous of driving up the narrow lane to Owslebury so I’m happy to give
a lift to people.

If you also have a Pétanque set that you can bring, again, please let me know.

If you do not have transport there or do not like driving down narrow lanes I will try to arrange a lift.
